What are domain names?

< 1 min read

A domain name is the unique name of a website on the Internet. It is a string of characters used to identify and locate a website on the Internet. Domain names are used to help users navigate the Internet and find the websites they want. A domain name consists of two parts: the top-level domain (TLD) and the second-level domain (SLD).

  • The TLD is the part of the domain name that comes after the dot, e.g. .com, .org, .net, etc.
  • The SLD is the part of the domain name that precedes the dot, and it is the unique name that identifies the website.

Overall, a domain name is an essential aspect of a website’s online presence and plays a crucial role in building a brand’s identity and online reputation.
